About the Event
February is of course Black History Month, and Scarecrow and UHeights are teaming up for two secret movie screenings of some very rare Blaxploitation films streamed right to you on Twitch.
Blaxploitation as a subgenre still carries the stigma of funny clothes and karate kicks, but so many of the films under the Blaxplo umbrella were personal, in some cases even autobiographical films by Black artists representing themselves and their community despite little formal training and few resources. Very different from modern standards of representation and inclusivity, these films might not often be wholesome, but they're always wholehearted. We're proud to put a couple of them in front of an audience. We have to keep the titles a secret, but here are a couple of hints:
On Wednesday, February 10 at 7pm we'll be showing an almost completely unheard-of autobiographical martial arts film about a Black kickboxer (who also happened to write, direct, and star in the film).
You can follow us Scarecrow on Twitch at twitch.tv/scvsea and sign up for notifications.
