ABOUT THE WORKSHOP:
What does the word PERFORM mean? By identifying what we already do well as communicators and applying that embodied knowledge to our most challenging communication tasks, we can overcome our performance anxiety and mitigate imposter syndrome. This workshop draws on performance studies and performance practice to shift the definition of performance and consider what you do with your mind, body, and voice to perform everyday tasks and make things happen!
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: Monica Cortés Viharo is an actor (SAG/AFTRA), a company member of eSe Teatro (a Seattle-based Latina theater company), a public speaking consultant, and an educator with over 20 years of professional experience. She just completed her two-year term on the Humanities Washington Speaker's Bureau where she shared her talk "Always On: How to Turn Up the Volume on Everyday Communication" with audiences throughout the state. Monica is completing a PhD in Drama and a Certificate in Public Scholarship at the University of Washington (UW). She has taught drama, public speaking, and ethnic studies at UW, the University of Puget Sound, and is currently associate faculty at Cascadia College and the performance coach for TEDxYouth@Seattle.
ABOUT FILAMENT:
Filament: A Collab Lab is an experimental theatre company co-founded by multidisciplinary artists: Brittany Allyson, Nathan Brockett, and Sophia Franzella. Their productions seek to engage all five senses and take advantage of the inherit theatricality of Seattle's terrain. "We break theatrical conventions to engage the senses {and} get minds out of asses {and} asses out of seats {and} onto their feets!"
