About the Event

This is a ticketed event, but if cost is a barrier, please let us know.

Spring is here and the world is buzzing with new stuff to explore! In this 3-part series, we’ll learn the basics of microscopy and examine some of the tiniest details of the season.

We’ll start by getting our gear-on and learning how to prepare slides and properly use a microscope. Then we’ll be off - exploring the tiniest microbes, plant cells, flower parts, and aquatic organisms that May has to offer. We won’t turn a blind eye to bigger creatures that emerge from winter’s rest though, we’ll also check out the animals that create the soil we depend on, and take a fascinating look into their world.

Like all of Mikey’s classes this will be a super hands-on, positive and fun experience, and a great time to spend with friends new and old. We’ll keep things exciting with games, music and creative activities designed to make everyone feel included and have a great time. See you soon!!

Class 1: Micro-basics

May 3rd 11:30 am - 12:30 pm

Ever wondered what it would be like to have super-human eyes? We’ll find out how it would feel by learning the anatomy of a microscope and jumping right in to making great slides and looking really closely at some really cool stuff. Mike will bring some great springtime samples to get us started, but feel free to bring something from home that you’d like to get extra close to as well!

Class 2: Botany Bounty

May 10th 11:30 am - 12:30 pm

The miracle of rebirth that defines the spring season starts with the plants coming out of dormancy and beginning their cycle of growth all over again. In this class, we’ll dissect flowers, learn their anatomy and discover the process by which seeds are made. We’ll look at different types of pollen under the microscope and learn the secrets of plant’s cell structure that allow

them to tower above us, or, to bend under our feet.

Class 3: The Soul of the Soil

May 24th 11:30 am - 12:30 pm

It’s all about the soil, silly. But, seriously- the soil is the foundation of the food chain and every living thing depends on its health. In this class we’ll learn what soil is made of, how it’s made, and we’ll get really close and personal with some of the amazing creatures that call the soil home!
