In partnership with Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UW, UHeights is excited to present our very first Book Club event!

"What is it like to travel through parts of the world that are socioeconomically different from home? How can travellers navigate the challenges, opportunities — and sometimes powerful emotions — of respectfully exploring places with lower incomes, different cultural patterns, and far fewer luxuries?"

Anu Taranath, faculty at the University of Washington English and Comparative History of Ideas Departments, explores such questions in her new book, Beyond Guilt Trips: Mindful Travel in an Unequal World.

This wonderful must-read book is filled with engaging personal travel stories and thought-provoking questions. Through dozens of relatable examples, Dr. Anu, provides tools to grapple with our discomfort and navigate differences with accountability and connection. Beyond Guilt Trips is meant to be read in community, and leaves you wanting conversation and discussion. Who best, then, to have that chat with than the author herself?

Join us on Sunday, Dec 8th from 4 to 6 pm where author Anu Taranath joins us in a community conversation, co-facilitated by Sasha Duttchoudhury.

Reading the book cover-to-cover before the event is recommended, but not required. If you’ve just started or are half-way through, you’re welcome to join us also!
